Bajaj Auto records highest ever Dec sale
Motorcycle and commercial vehicle sales rise 13% and 9% respectively last month over December 2011
The last month of 2012 proved lucky for Bajaj Auto which has reported highest ever December sale.
The Pune-based auto major today informed the Bombay Stock Exchange thats its motorcycle and commercial vehicle sales rose 13% and 9% respectively last month over December 2011.
Even the consolidated sale figure and export figure is 13% and 5% higher, the company said.
Bajaj’s number’s are in contrast to other industry majors which have seen slow or even negative sales growth. Typically December sees sluggish sales as most buyers postpone the purchase to coming calender year. However for the nine month period ending December, Bajaj Auto’s motor cycle sales are 1% lower and its consolidated sales are 2% lower than 2011 due to falling sales of commercial vehicles.
Hero Motor Corporation’s two wheeler sales were up by a marginal 0.25% while TVS Motor saw a drop of 9.6% in December sales, according to industry data released on Tuesday.
The sluggish sales growth is causing concern amongst auto and commercial vehicle manufacturers, which have been rolling out new models and luring buyers with discounts.
