cb is this good news or bad news for ongc ....i saw this at sharekhan portal .....
ONGC wants to exit three JVs

    Jun 23 2010 4:56PM

Unable to shoulder the royalty burden of its partners, state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is exploring the option of exiting three lucrative domestic producing fields, including the decade's biggest onland oil discovery. The flagship explorer has offered to sell its stake to its private partners - group arms of UK-based independent explorers Cairn and Hardy, Tata Petrodyne as well as Hindustan Oil Exploration Company - in respective fields.

The fields were carved out before the government started the system of auctioning acreages. These are Cairn-operated Block RJ-ON-90/1 in Rajasthan's Barmer district - the biggest discovery of recent times, Cambay basin Block CB/OS-2 in Gujarat offhsore as well as Hardy-operated Block PY-3 off the Puducherry coast. While the Rajasthan and PY-3 blocks produce oil, the Cambay acreage is a gas field.

In all these fields, ONGC pays royalty and taxes for the entire production. In other words, it pays for the partners' share of the statutory levies under a commitment from the government that these will be reimbursed. The finance ministry has, however, refused to keep that word, rendering these fields unviable for ONGC.

CB, replies: Hi arun bj, if they decide to exit then would be good news. lets see how markets react to it
