thanks cb, i was always confused about open interest..i just wanted to know 2 things - u said open interest indicates total no. of shares held in delivery...so that increases or decreases daily..so for example..if they show on tv that tata steel has added 10 lakh shares in open interest does it mean people are going long?...and vice versa if they say tata steel has shed 10 lakh shares in open interest?
also, my second question is i hear a lot of people in mumbai talk about bhavcopy...i downloaded it from nse..and it shows the open interest, open, high and closing prices...so how does it help for next day trading session?

Hi kk, if price of a stock is rising and OI is also rising, then it indicates price of the stock will move higher and vice versa. hope this link will help you understand better: http://nseguide.com/market-news/open-interest-what-it-is-how-is-it-calculated-and-how-to-make-best-use-of-it/

hi cb, ok..i went through your article on open interest...so it says that if open interest is falling and the price is falling..that means that particular share is strengthening...so today..open interest and the price of nifty index came down...is it an indicator that nifty is strengthening even if global markets come down or how does it work?
