CB, I found the answer for 5000 PUT buildup, see below report,
    Printed from

Traders may book profits at 5300 level
19 Mar 2010, 0124 hrs IST, Siddarth Bhamre,

    Topics:India nifty ONGC Angel Broking
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have invested significantly in the cash market after the Union Budget. At the same time, they are buying
‘Put’ options, especially 5000 Put, to hedge their equity exposures.

Historically, long ‘index futures’ and ‘Puts’ by FIIs have led to a substantial upside in the market. This time around, the difference is that instead of long index future, cash-based buying has been done.

Confidence or complacency, call what you will, in the market, is rising. Implied Volatility (IV) of 16.53% is way too low to sustain. Participants are going ahead and selling 5200 and 5300 ‘in-the-money’ Puts having low IVs in anticipation that the market will cross a strong resistance of 5300.

Having said that the maximum ‘Put’ build-up is in 5000 strike which we believe is more of buying, which says that high PCR-OI should not be read as overbought situation in the market. Other positives being FIIs’ continuation of cash-based buying, while domestic participants still remain sceptical. Last three trading sessions were dominated by large-caps showing an upside move.

For coming trading sessions, we may toggle between 5150 and 5300, as profit-booking may emerge around 5300. In this time-frame, mid-caps may outperform which have been on the back seat. ONGC has been correcting from 1120 levels and huge short positions are being formed.

We expect some more correction up to 1040, where we expect short-covering to set in, followed by fresh ‘longs’. Avoid fresh shorts. Sugar stocks Bajaj Hind and Balram Chin are near strong-support zone of 135-145 and 90-95, respectively.

Avoid fresh shorts here too. Some of the mid-cap ideas which we would prefer to trade long as of now are YES Bank, KS Oils, and LIC Housing Finance to name a few.

    For benefit of all members
