Hi CB, i bought ThinkSoft @ 252 a couple of days back, which i sold off today at 270. Around 4 pm today, i received a message that the amount that i invested in the script would be credited to my account as shares have been received short from exchange. Now that i've sold the shares that i did not own, they would account to loss in settlement. Can you brief me about the T-to-T settlement when a script has gone short. I hold an account in India Infoline, and all these days, i could see the stocks in my holding!! Is anything fishy here??
CB, replies: Hi Kapil, yes, it usually happens. to be on the safe side in future, dont sell stocks unless they are seen in ur demat account. i guess it will be now treated as "short selling". if thats not the case then stock will be sent to auction on the 3rd day and if the price of the stock goes down then you could be in profits else a loss. also check if they charge any penalty. usually some brokers charge 20% of the total amt. still confirm the course of action from the broker.
