hello sir i have a problem i shorted shares 150 of ster and my brokers says that the share are gone in ocction and what i do plz suggest ?
shorted in normal market and i forgot to cover the position what i do? str plz suggest
Kartik, replies: Hi Ravinder Dabas, on the 3rd day, e.g if you shorted today, your share will be sent for auction on the 3rd day, i.e Tuesday, and based on the price of the stock on that day, you profit/loss shall be decided

sir my broker says to me that you loose 8000 rs when your shares are occtioned sir plz explain to me i have shorted 150 shares of ster at 849 and i forgot to cover that at the time of closing of market sir plz tel to me that what lose i face ?

CB, replies: Hi Ravinder Dabas, ok.. on the 3rd day from the day you short your shares they will be bought back in auction. if the rate of the stock comes down then you will be in profit if stock continues to move higher then you may have some loss. also some brokers charge penalty some don't. check with your broker if he charges any amt

Hi Ravinder Dabas,
you will be charged the rate sterlite is bought in auction - the rate at which you shorted.
The auction rate is likely to be higher than your shorts as the market in moving up.
May be your broker assumed the rate difference could be about 50 per share x 150 shares = 7500+ loss.
You would know only on & after the auction.
Its a sad part of shorting ... almost everyone faces it at sometime or other. :(

CB, replies: Hi pseudonym, would advice to invest small quantities in austral coke since its a high risk bet.. others can be bought around 7-10% lower for long term..they have the potential to double in a yr or 2.
