Hi Kartik, Ur suggestion to enter nifty puts below 5080 is based on nifty closing basis; i.e. a close at 5080 or lower?Pls confirm.

Karthik, all dear friends,
I am still not clear on two things, if you have a clear idea about these.
1. Short-Covering. with my Trading Platform (Geojit BNP Paribas), I can do (a) Short-sell and Buy-to-Cover for Intraday Trade to be squared off before 3.00 PM everyday. (b) I can Short-sell in FAO trades to be squared-off by last Thursday of every month.
But I keep on hearing Market or somestocks are up on shortcovering. What it means, how covering of shorts in FAO make a stock or index go up.
Is there any other SHORTING, it is my understanding that, in Cash market Delivery Trade, we cannot do any SHORT SELL, is it correct, if not correct could you explain.

2) ROLLOVER: near to and during Futures & Options expiry we keep hearing about ROLLOVER, what it means, and how it is done.
Anyone having correct knowledge please advice for help of others

Kartik, replies: Hi matlee81, yes, for cash you need to cover the same day and in futures you need to do it on expiry .. when we hear stocks are moving higher on shortcovering it means maximum of people who were holding their short positions in nifty/stocks are buying them back to cover. this buying back of shorts triggers and upmove since it like buying them at market rate. .. rollover means you need to cover the position for current month.. if you are short and are in a loss then you need to buy back and book the loss and at the same time again short it in next months futures.
