If we buy any stock for short term just for getting dividend, will there be a sweeping correction after the ex dividend date so as to wipe off the dividend gained?

Pls advice, I bought RPOWER in 2008 when they published IPO but after that averaged and now am holding RPOWER average price is around 79.5 having 600 quantity. Should i hold for this as long term investments or will exit...
