As per my knowledge and law,if a company winds up operation and closes, after paying all creditors,govt dues like taxes,PF/ESI etc,if any thing left can be distributed to share holders as per shareholding ratio. Usually companies wind up when dues are more than net worth and it is as good as nothing to share holders.

Hi Mr CB
Holding short positions in Axis and ICICI from 550 level and 315 ( now 527 and 304 ) . They seemed to be holding out somewhat today . Are these shorts a hold or should I exit ?
