Two biggest falls in stock mkt indian history
On 17/05/2004 Indian stock market crashed leaving investors heart broken. The investors couldn't do much. On 17/05/2004 Sensex crashed by 842 points intra day. In the morning when Sensex opened for trading, it began with a loss of 550 points. Trading halted for One hour. Then after around one hour around 11.30 AM, the stock market reopened. Within 2 minutes, Sensex dropped another 5%. It triggered another halt for the Stock market in India. At 1.20 pm, Stock markets in India reopened, situations got better and value buying emerges. Sensex closed the day at 4505 with a loss of 565 points. Nifty closes with a loss of 194 points to end at 1389. Trading was halted for almost 3 hours on 17/05/2004.
Reason for the crash on 17/05/2004 is due to prominent power enjoyed by the left in the new Government and the loss of NDA in the election. Market was yet to come to grip with the new power combination in new Government.
On 22/05/2006 Market crashed by almost 10% intra day. Trading were halted at 11.57AM. The Sensex had plummeted by almost 1112 points. Nifty sunk almost by 350 points. For one hour trading were halted in both NSE and BSE. After the Finance minister and SEBI chief's assurance that every thing is well, market regains some of its losses. After One hour, when the market opened, Govt.Institutions pumped money and bought heavy weights. At the time of close of the market, Sensex ends the day at 11042 with a loss of 456 points only.
Weak global conditions lays the egg for the crash of 22/05/2006. Then the liquidity situation and panic lead to the desperate situation of the stock market in India.
