What are the types of Demergers?
CB, replies: Hi Nevds, hope this helps: TYPES OF DEMERGER:  Spinoff: This type of demerger involves division of company intowholly owned subsidiary of parent company by distribution of allits shares of subsidiary company on Pro-rata basis. By this way, both the companies i.e. holding as well as subsidiary companyexist and carry on business. For example Kotak, Mahindrafinance Ltd. formed a subsidiary called Kotak Mahindra CapitalCorporation, by spinning off its investment banking division.  Split ups: This type of demerger involves the division of parentcompany into two or more separate companieswhere parent company ceases to exist after the demerger.  Equity carve out: This is similar to spin offs, except that same partof shareholding of this subsidiary company is offered to publicthrough a public issue and the parent company continues to enjoycontrol over the subsidiary company by holding controllinginterest in it.  Divestitures: These are sale of segment of a company for cash or for securities to an outside party. Divestitures, involve some kind of contraction

Recently Orient Paper and Industries Ltd completed the process of demerger of the 'Cement Undertaking'' of Orient Paper and Industries Limited into Orient Cement Limited. What type of Demerger was that? Would Orient cement now operate as a separate company and still be under Orient Paper and Industries?
The stock reacted by falling 80% on the date of announcement of the Record Date.
So judging by that does a stock fall incase of a demerger?

cb many stocks hammered and in a solid recover ..i have iob @ 87.5..as i seen mkt rallied 300 points in 1 weeks but iob not moving in line wit mkt..now in panic that in mkt corrected further 100 points iob will down to likely 70..seen jpass.. from 69 to 78.hdil 58 to 72..but iob just rs 5 in 300 points mkt rally ?? what u think shall i book loss..15k ?? any stock to convert((earlier i want to convert to jp ass @ 69,,when iob was 75),but u said no..hold it ..what to do now..i am in panic.as it is not rising in line with mkt but in down in line with mkt..
CB, replies: Hi subrat, yes, it does look weak after its fall from 95. jp also was looking weak then. give it a bit longer.2-3 months. will recover back. midcaps usually move late in the rally
