Siemens India wins order worth Rs1.12bn
Siemens Ltd. said on Monday that it has bagged a significant repeat order from Vedanta Aluminium Ltd. (VAL) to provide high voltage power distribution systems for the second phase of expansion of their Jharsuguda, smelter plant at Orissa.
The Rs1.12bn power augmentation package for Phase II will increase the capacity of the smelter plant from 0.5mn tons per annum to 1.75mn tons per annum- thus Vedanta’s domestic production of aluminium ingots would be three fold fro the plant.
Siemens’ Industry Solutions (IS) division, part of its Industry Sector has bagged a turnkey order worth Rs1.12bn from Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL). The scope of work includes design, engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 33kV and 11kV electrical distribution system. The power and distribution transformers, along with high voltage VCB panels, SCADA systems, DC distribution, cabling and other auxiliaries will be supplied by Siemens. The time frame for the execution of the project is 18 months and is scheduled to be commissioned by 2010.
This order forms part of Vedanta Aluminium’s expansion project at Jharsuguda for Rs12bn, which currently is in its second phase of implementation. The aluminium industry in India is the fastest growing sector among all metals. Upon completion, this Vendanta plant Jharsuguda is expected to be Asia’s largest and among the top 5 integrated producers of aluminium worldwide.
