Tata Motors total vehicle sales at 40,729 nos
Tata Motors reported a total sale of 40,729 vehicles (including exports) for the month of July 2008, a decline of 3% compared to 42,098 vehicles sold in July last year. Cumulative sales for the company at 1,72,462 nos., grew by 2%.
Commercial Vehicles
The company’s sales of commercial vehicles in July 2008 in the domestic market were 22,381 nos., a growth of 8% compared to 20,705 vehicles sold in July last year. LCV sales were 12,284 nos., a growth of 19% over July 2007. While M&HCV sales stood at 10,097 nos., a decline of 3% over July 2007, new and more fuel-efficient M&HCV vehicles introduced over the last few months are showing good growth. Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were 93,861 nos., a growth of 14% over last year. Cumulative M&HCV sales stood at 45,932 nos., a growth of 7% over last year, while LCV sales for the fiscal were 47,929 nos., a growth of 22% over last year.
Passenger Vehicles
Restricted finance availability, high interest rates, increased prices and product maturity in some segments continued to impact passenger vehicle sales of the company in July. Total sales of passenger vehicles were 14,652 nos. in the domestic market in July 2008, a decline of 13.9% over July 2007. The Indica reported sales of 7,525 nos., a decline of 32% over July 2007. The Indigo family recorded sales of 4,487 nos., a 73% growth over July 2007. The Sumo and Safari accounted for sales of 2,640 nos., a 20.6 % decline compared to July 2007, impacted by the sudden and unexpected increase in excise duties in the latter half of June 2008.
Cumulative sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal in the first four months were 65,746 nos., a decline of 4.5% over the same period last year. Cumulative sales of the Indica at 33,201 nos., reported a decline of 27%. Cumulative sales of the Indigo family were 17,539 nos., a growth of 79%. Cumulative sales of Sumo and Safari were 15,006 nos., a growth of 12%. The Sumo recorded a 19% growth with sales of 9,407 nos., while Safari sales at 5,599 nos. grew by 3%.
Exports
Exports at 3,696 vehicles in July 2008 declined by 16% compared to 4,382 vehicles in July 2007. The cumulative sales from exports for the fiscal at 12,855 nos. declined by 29% over 18,204 nos. in the same period last year.
