Now, CAG unearths pulses scam
Flays department of consumer affairs and public distribution for the losses between 2006 and 2011.
A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report has nailed the department of consumer affairs and public distribution for causing losses of Rs 1,201 crore to state-owned agencies MMTC, STC, NAFED and PEC on import and sale of pulses between 2006 and 2011.The period in question was the time when Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar also held the charge of food, consumer affairs and public distribution.
The report was tabled in Parliament today. It said the audit of two schemes to distribute cheap pulses was launched in 2006, and in 2008 showed that both schemes could not achieve their objectives of increasing pulses availability in the market and stabilising prices because of serious deficiencies in their design, implementation and monitoring, continue reading
