Inflation drops to 0.48% in week ended May 23
Government revises inflation for the week ended March 28, to 0.84% from the preliminary estimate of 0.26%
The annual rate of inflation, calculated on a point to point basis, stood at 0.48% for the week ended May 23, 2009 as compared to 0.61% for the previous week ended May 16, 2009. It was at 8.90% during the week ended May 24, 2008.
The Government also revised the inflation rate for the week ended March 28, 2009, to 0.84% from a provisional estimate of to 0.26%, while the WPI for the same period stood at 228.6 as compared to 227.3 forecast earlier.
The index for Primary Article group rose by 0.2% to 256.6 from 256.1 for the previous week. The index for Fuel & Power group remained unchanged at its previous week’s level of 324. The index for the Manufactured Products group remained unchanged at its previous week’s level of 203.5.
The index for Textiles group rose by 0.4% to 141.5 from 141.0 for the previous week. The index for Leather & Leather Products group declined by 0.7% to 166.2 from 167.4 for the previous week.
The index for Machinery & Machine Tools group declined by 0.1% and the index for Transport Equipment & Parts group declined by 0.3%.
