HCL America plans to open US delivery center
HCL America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of HCL Technologies Ltd. (“HCL”), India’s leading global IT services company, today announced it will open a U.S. delivery center in Wake County, North Carolina. The company will invest $3.2 million and hire more than 500 employees over the next five years, thanks in part to a state Job Development Investment Grant awarded to the company.
“HCL was one of the first Indian firms to open offices in the U.S., and we now have more than 3,000 employees here. The decision to open the North Carolina delivery center reflects our optimism about the US economy and the continued importance of our US clients to our business,” stated Shami Khorana, president of HCL America. “The facility, with its specialist skills and proximity to our customers, will add significant value to our global delivery model. Through our delivery centers in Ireland, China, Poland and India our customers will have a selection of locations from which we can provide on- and off-shore support to meet their individual requirements.”
“These jobs are a good fit for our economy and critical to the families who will benefit from them,” said North Carolina Governor Mike Easley. “We are working with education and workforce training programs to make sure we can deliver employees with IT skills to companies located anywhere in our state.”
Khorana added, “We are grateful to Governor Easley and the government of North Carolina for their enthusiastic support and we look forward to expanding our employee roster with talented staff from North Carolina, helping to serve our growing U.S. client base.”
HCL selected North Carolina due to the state’s skilled workforce, strong educational network and its proximity to its U.S. customer base. The delivery center will provide application development and maintenance, IT infrastructure management, English and Spanish Help Desk support, storage design and architecture services, SAP services, engineering services, and other consulting services for U.S. customers. The facility is scheduled to open by the end of 2008.
On August 1, 2008, HCL Technologies announced in its annual earnings that the U.S. geography continues to grow consistently, reporting sales of more than $300 million the last quarter. In addition, more than $1 billion in transformational outsourcing deals were signed during the year, with the majority of those deals originating in the U.S.
The U.S. center opening is part of HCL’s global delivery strategy to offer customers support from various locations around the world. HCL currently operates delivery centers in India, China, Poland and Ireland.
