World War II bomb explodes after 65 years
Three bomb disposal experts died after a 1,100-pound World War II bomb they were preparing to defuse exploded in Goettingen, central Germany on June 2, 2010. Six persons were wounded, two of them seriously, in the blast in the central German town of Goettingen, according to German and international media reports.
The U.S. and its allies had dropped nearly 2 million tons of bombs on Germany during World War II. it is common to find them unexploded even 65 years later. In this case, the workers building a new sports stadium unearthed the explosives more than 20 feet underground.
That day nearly 7,200 people in the area had been evacuated, and the facades of two houses were reported damaged in the blast
