Volatile Sensex ends flat
Following a solid 730-points, the Sensex this morning opened 25 points higher at 12,160. The index however soon slipped into red owing to profit-taking in early trades.
The index, thereafter, swung between zones throughout the day as positive cues from global markets boosted sentiment, while profit-taking at higher levels weighed on the market. The index touched a high of 12,198, and a low of 11,986 today.
The Sensex finally ended flat at 12,131 – down four points.
The BSE Realty index soared over 8.5% to 2,429. The Metal index surged 3.5% to 7,752, and the Bankex gained 2.4% at 6,278.
The market breadth was fairly positive – out of 2,635 stocks traded, 1,621 advanced, and 919 declined today.
INDEX MOVERS….
DLF surged over 11% to Rs 260.
Tata Steel added 9% to Rs 286. ICICI Bank has gained over 7.5% to Rs 569.
Tata Motors and Reliance Infrastructures added 6% each to Rs 272 and Rs 793, respectively.
Ranbaxy advanced 4% to Rs 177.
…AND THE SHAKERS
HDFC was the major loser for the day, shed 5% at Rs 1,859.
ITC slipped 4% to Rs 197. Mahindra & Mahindra and Infosys declined 3% each to Rs 533 and 1,583, respectively.
TCS dropped 2.5% to Rs 650.
OTHER PROMINENT GAINERS…
Jubilant Organosys zoomed 13% to Rs 133. Godrej Industries soared 11% to Rs 85.
Hindustan Construction Company and JSW Steel rallied 10.5% each to Rs 64 and Rs 398, respectively.HDIL, IFCI and Renuka Sugar advanced 9% each to Rs 172, Rs 29 and Rs116, respectively.
…AND LOSERS
Indian Overseas Bank slumped 6% to Rs 64. Federal Bank shed 4% at Rs 183.
Zee Entertainment, Castrol India and HPCL declined 3% each to Rs 118, Rs 332 and Rs 261, respectively.
VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERS
ICICI Bank led the value chart with a total turnover of Rs 324 crore followed by Reliance Capital (Rs 298.19 crore) , Unitech (Rs 251.63 crore), DLF (Rs 214.95 crore) and Reliance (198.39 crore).
Unitech topped the volume chart with trades of 46.98 million shares followed by Suzlon Energy (22.08 million), Reliance Natural Resources (21.50 million ), IFCI (18.75 million) and HDIL (11.43 million).
