Sensex extends losses, down 239pts
The Sensex has extended losses and is now down 239 points at 11,878.The BSE Metal index has plunged over 3% to 7,897. The Bankex has dropped nearly 3% to 6,028, and the IT index has declined nearly 2% to 2,732. Sterlite has slumped over 6% to Rs 485. Hindalco has plunged 5.5% to Rs 66.
Wipro has tumbled 4% to Rs 365, and ICICI Bank has shed 3.7% at Rs 529.
HDFC, HDFC Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra have slipped 3.3% each to Rs 1,755, Rs 1,138 and Rs 500, respectively.
ACC and Reliance Infrastructure are down 3% each at Rs 605 and Rs 786, respectively.
ONGC has moved up 1.5% to Rs 902, and Hindustan Unilever is up 1% at Rs 233.
The market breadth has turned negative – out of 2,437 stocks traded so far, 1,199 have declined, 1,142 have advanced and the rest are unchanged.
