Nifty falls below 3400; Suzlon, Tata Motors plunge
MUMBAI: Indian indices ended with huge losses after bears pulled down the indices below psychological levels. Realty and metals were beaten down while FMCG space managed to end higher. Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex ended at 10909.57 down 375.16 points. The index touched an intra-day low of 10900.47 and high of 11367.23.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed at 3358.50 down 125.65 points. The broader index hit a low of 3354.20 and high of 3511.25 in the day.
BSE Midcap Index was down 4.94 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index fell 5.28 per cent.
Suzlon (-18.46%), Tata Motors (-13.71%), DLF (-11.07%), Reliiance Infrastructure (-10.45%) and Unitech (-9.69%) were the top Nifty losers.
BPCL (5.45%), ITC (3.35%), Wipro (2.99%), Sun Pharma (1.64%) and Hindustan Unilever (1.55%) were amongst the gainers.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Realty Index tumbled over 10 per cent, BSE Metal Index fell 7.46 per cent and BSE Capital Goods Index was down 5.30 per cent.
Market breadth was negative on the BSE with 1739 declines and 853 advances.
