Nifty ends at day’s high; ICICI Bank, Sterlite surge
MUMBAI: Indian markets ended the first day of July series on a high note on Friday. Buying was seen across the board with frontline stocks
outperforming midcap space.
National Stock Exchange’s Nifty closed at 4376.20, 134.35 points or 3.17 per cent. The broader index touched an intra-day high of 4383.75 and low of 4243.95.
Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex ended at 14769.67, up 424.05 points or 2.96 per cent. The 30-share index hit a high of 14781.94 and low of 14373.57.
BSE Midcap Index was up 2.38 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index gained 1.80 per cent.
Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Bankex moved up 4.33 per cent, BSE Capital Goods Index gained 4.27 per cent and BSE IT Index advanced 3.75 per cent.
Biggest Nifty gainers were ICICI Bank (8.16%), Jindal Steel (6.83%), Sterlite Industries (6.41%), Ambuja Cements (5.56%) and Axis Bank (5.52%).
Sun Pharmaceuticals (-12.02%), Ranbaxy Laboratories (-4.12%), Tata Steel (-3.1%), Mahindra & Mahindra (-0.48%) and Idea Cellular (-0.25%) were the losers.
Market breadth on BSE showed 1673 advances against 952 declines.
