Good Friday…BSE, NSE closed – 10-04-09
For the week the main indices posted gains over 4%.
Indian financial markets will be shut on Friday, April 10, on account of Good Friday. This will be the second public holiday this week and third in the month. Markets will be closed again on April 14 due to Ambedkar Jayanti and on April 30 for general elections.
The BSE Sensex rose 0.57% on Thursday, a sixth straight rise that took it to a six-month closing high, but caution ahead of corporate earnings and Lok Sabha elections kept a lid on gains.
The Indian market has risen 12.9% during its longest winning streak in a year, and is up over 34% from its 2009 low hit on March 6.
The Sensex hit an intra-week high of 10,929 and low of 10,173 and the NSE Nifty touched an intra-week high of 3,401 and low of 3,149.
The Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought Indian stocks worth Rs8.68bn during the week. Even the Domestic Institutional Investors purchased stocks worth Rs220mn during the week.
