189 stocks touch lower circuit on BSE
MUMBAI: Around 12 noon, 189 stocks were trading at their lower circuit as selling pressure gripped the entire market. Stocks like Shoppers’ Stop, Thomas Cook, Camlin, Ballarpur Industries, Tech Mahindra, Punj Lloyd, Tanla Solutions and Pyramid Saimira touched new lows on Thursday.
More than 100 stocks trading at lower circuit belonged to the B group stocks. Around 30 stocks from the T group were also at their lower circuit.
Meanwhile, the benchmark Sensex dipped below the psychological 9,000-mark as weak global cues dampened investor sentiment. The Sensex was down nearly 400 points at 8,971. The 30-share index has lost over 1,200 points in the last six trading sessions.
The overall market breadth was also quite weak with more than 75% stocks on BSE in the red. The technology pack has come under severe sell-off on news that Nortel has filed for bankruptcy. The BSE IT index was down 5.56%, while the BSE Tech lost nearly 5%. Index heavyweights including Infosys, Wipro and TCS were among the top losers.
