Hi gayaram, Ok. If u entered a 5600PE, and Nifty moves north, then the premium of your PE goes on decreasing. On expiry, it canbe:
1) Illiquid -- i.e, no buyer or seller available
2) Zero in premium value.
3) If you are lucky, you can get a token premiun of say 5paise or 10paise (if it is still liquid) and you have a chance to sq.off

Your premium can never be negative.

(Price of a spread contract in currency pair can sometimes be negative. In fact the only thing in market parlence, where you can have negative values)

Hi suzane, Lets take an example. Consider 3 persons--- A, B, C.
On day1, A sells a contract to B (lets say Nifty Future). A=seller. B=buyer.
Volume of Nifty=1. Open Interest=1.
On day2, B sells the same contract to C. B=seller. C=buyer.
Volume of Nifty=2. Open Interest=1.
So, though the volume increases, Open Interest remains the same i.e, 1.
(This is because C replaces B as the buyer)
This example helps us to understand the co-relation between Open Interest and Volume.

NB. Another basic idea abt OI.
