If you think any one of these can happen, then give a try. (be aware of risk and reward on 3 sides, up/down/sideways) ... option losses its values (time decay).

Buy Options for Limited Risk (Premium) and Max Profit protential is lot more (ppl say unlimited :) ), Consider buying options in the money Strikes or At the money strikes.
This is all about timing ... if you can't time, you'll lose your premium ... very soon nothing more.

Sell Options for Limited Profit (premium), and Max profit potential is more.
Selling options is very risky and you need to have deep pockets as well (margin amount ... in cash), usually pros sell options.
Usually out of money strikes are sold thinking that stock will not reach there usually.

NOTE : Never Sell Naked Options, huge risk.

Options are derivatives ... (Derivatives means ... their movement is dependent on its underlying .. it can be stock or index .. etc).

Buy Calls if you think stock will go up
Buy PUT if you think stock will go down
Sell Call if you thing stock will go down (Very risky, don't try it pls)
Sell Put if you thing stock will go UP (Very risky, don't try it pls)

Hi rana, Rana be very careful at expiry date. And do not hold in the money options till end of the date. Else you may have to pay more tax for it. Also do not buy any scrips at expiry date at lower prices. If you feel that the scrip might give some bounce at last moment, then only you have to buy & hold, at the same time workout your brokerage etc... before buying it. Else it will be a negative trade to you. By luck, the future price closed lower to your fut.script underlying price then forget about it. No need to square it off. Since, it will be consider as out of money. Otherwise brokerage+taxes will make your trade negative, unless your chosen scrip gives a good bounce at the last.

Hi Prem, Usually i trade out of the money options only for the first 14 trading days. Thereafter the option price will come down due to time decay very fast. Thereafter i try go only with in the money or i will try to avoid holding long periods. or i prefer to go only with futures till expiry unless different situations.

But, try to avoid options maximum. Instead go with future contracts when you confident on your script. Because, we might see the script technically strong. But, due to other circumstances our script might not move as we expected for some days. In this case if we bought options, it would come down even script does not shown any movement because of time decay. But, Futures do not change will remain near to the cash price. Hope this might help you...
