Hi CB/Karthik/KK/RG/Ibull,
Need your help/suggestion/guidance on below strategy for nifty/stock options on expiry.
Just an Example
1)Holding 50 Q Nifty 7650 CE @ 80, CMP 1.00 (Will let it expire so around 3500/4000 loss).
2)Now can we Short 50 Q of Nifty @ spot price say 7600 around closing time on expiry day. (Using 1:4 margin)
So as we shorted, Will it auto square off buy on Friday/Saturday batch run and will the loss be reduced to (7600-7650)*50 = -2500 Loss (Instead of 4000)??
Just a weird thinking :-) !!

Hi TradeWarrior, Taking your example and considering Nifty expires at 7600 :
1) If you let 7650 CE expire, at expiry its premium will be zero as it is OTM. Hence loss is 4000 + some penalty imposed by broker + brokerage and taxes. If we forget the penalty and brokerage and taxes part, loss becomes 4000. This will be a separate trade and no way related to point no 2.
2) You short Nifty at 7600. Nifty expires at 7600 on the last Thursday of the month. Final settlement will happen on Thursday itself. In this case there will be no profit no loss. But as you have not squared off your Future contract, your broker will impose a penalty.
The question of deducting the srtike price of your long call from the final settlement price of the underlying does not arise due to the simple fact that everything is cash settled.
Hence, if we forget all brokerage, all takes, all penalties, the final loss will be Rs. 4000
Hope this explanation helps :)

Hi iBull, Thanks for the YES BANK levels, I will watch it
Hi TradeWarrior,
1) When the option contract price is diminishing on time, It is always to wake up little early than to loose or ignore selling it. Atleast you will get Rs.50 (50 * 1) back if you sell it. On expiry day after market hours, system will square off the position autmatically, that also place a sell order on your behalf.
2) Little confusing. As far as I understood, You try to short Nifty Future contract just before the expiry day. Then the position will squaared off at the closing price on Thursday evening itself. It won't wait till Friday or Saturday batch. Money may reflect your demat account (phisically) on Friday or Saturday depends on the broker policy. But the position will squared off on Thursday closing price only.

Hi shreeux, Escorts may see some tought time to move in GREEN, because of disappointing Monsoon. IF Monsoon is good, it would rally well. Maintain some stoploss
