Hi Indu, GM. Securities in Ban Period as described by NSE tells about DERIVATIVE CONTRACTS OF SECURITIES. Now, derivatives of securities means Futures and Options both. During a ban period of a security, you cannot create fresh positions either in its Futures or Options. If you hold any such derivative contract, you can square off those... but remember you cannot CREATE FRESH POSITIONS.
But let me also tell you this : Sometimes some brokers allow some clients (for example HNIs) to take fresh positions in derivatives of securities in ban period, with a condition. The condition is that the clients will not be able to carry forward their position and will have to square off their position by EOD. Basically allowing them to do intraday trading.
I would request you to have a chat with representatives of your broker regarding this and ask for more clarifications. Till that I hope this information helps :)

    Hi SM Good Morning,

Thanks for the information. Yes, you are right, it is for both Futures and Options. I just confirmed with my broker, he said the same. There is no issue in selling them off but issue arises only, when creating new positions.

I just saw that message on my terminal in the morning today, so just wanted to confirm with all before I initiate anything in HDIL option. I'm newbie to options trading and don't know much about them.

Thanks again for guiding all the new members here.

    Indu
