Regarding investment in Mutual funds thru SIP my personal opinion administration charges charged by mutual funds eats away most of the profits...so it will be beneficial if he opens demat a/c. and invests directly in select good mid-caps ..Advantage no high admin charges + he will get tax free dividend on his holdings....if required I can try to give suggest some scrips...

If at all he has made up his mind to invest in Mutual fund then for best Mutual funds I request CB / Karthik sir to recommend...

Above is just my personal view...only advantage of SIP in Mutual fund is he will be taking position in various scrips with small amount but major advantage is most of the funds don't perform as expected even on long term...+ they keep on buying/selling to make up money on brokerages + admin charges

Hi Robotguy, sometimes entring nifty bees would work while a MF won't and vice-versa, since it has only be the large-caps rallying over the past 1 year, there wouldn't have been much gain in Mid-caps, causing most of the Mf's to give less returns when compared with Nifty. In either cases, its always safe to invest in fundamentally strong bets for long term
