United Phosphorus Ltd has informed BSE regarding allotment of equity shares of Rs 2 each upon conversion of Foreign Currency Convertible Bonds (FCCBs - II) for an amount not exceeding US$ 150 million.

1. Series A - US$ 70 million (Compulsorily convertible into equity shares) was converted on February 17, 2006.

2. Series B - US$ 80 million (Optionally convertible into equity shares) of this:

a) US$ 78 million have been converted in to equity shares on various dates and till the last date of the conversion and

b) the balance US$ 2 million have been redeemed and there is no amount outstanding now.

Ramky Infrastructure has achieved the financial closure with respect to the debt syndication of Rs 1060.00 crore through Canara Bank, the lead banker of the consortium, for a project that was awarded to the company in consortium with IL&FS Transportation Networks.

The project was awarded by Andhra Pradesh Road Development Corporation (APRDC) for Four laning 212.50 km of the existing 2-lane stretch from Narketpally to Addanki and Medarametla road on State Highway - 2, in the State of Andhra Pradesh under a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer ('DBFOT') format for which the concession agreement was signed on July 23, 2010. The project is on toll basis with a concession period of 24 years including the construction period of 910 days. The cost of the project is Rs 1760.53 crore.

Ramky Infrastructure, the flagship company of the Ramky Group, is engaged in construction and infrastructure development, operation and management. It has serviced a diverse range of construction and infrastructure projects in sectors as varied as water and waste water, transportation, irrigation, industrial parks (including SEZs), power transmission and distribution, residential, commercial and retail property.

Biocon’s late-stage clinical trial of its experimental oral insulin drug to treat type-II diabetes has not met the desired results. However, the company would continue with the development and initiate discussions for partnership with global pharmaceutical companies.

Biocon’s study drug IN-105 was in the final phase of clinical trials. Oral insulin is a novel drug research initiative of Biocon which aims to cure type-II diabetes in patients. If Biocon’s oral drug trials become successful it would be the first of its kind.

IN105 is a tablet using a proprietary polymer technology acquired by Biocon from US firm Nobex Corp. Nobex — whose IP assets were later bought by Biocon when it filed for bankruptcy in 2005. Nobex had developed a technology that allows modifications to the insulin structure to make it suitable for oral delivery.

Currently, investors should hold minimum 25% of entire equity assets in cash form until end of January. The outlook remains strong in the medium-to-long term. However, they may go through rough patches until end of March because of several reasons.

: The flow of FDI money has dipped for first time in last six years on a year-on-year basis by 25%. The current account deficit is now largely financed by FII fund flows rather than FDI money, which is a major cause of concern.

: Inflation too can spoil the perception of foreign institutional investors (FIIs) for another one month, but the base effect which will start playing out from March will help mitigate the risk arising from inflation.

Banking sector is under stress. There is a gross mismatch between the lending and deposit rates which will affect the December 2010 quarter results. Deposit rates surged by 200 bps, where as lending rates inched up by 50-75 bps since the month of December. Also, banks may not make much money out of the treasury source because the yields are holding steady.

Macquarie Fund to invest 580 cr in Moser Baer’s power plant

Macquarie SBI Infrastructure Fund (MSIF) will invest 580 crore to pick up a stake in Moser Baer Power Projects’ (MBPPL) upcoming thermal power plant in Madhya Pradesh. MBPPL would set up a 2,520 megawatts thermal power plant in phases at Anuppur in Madhya Pradesh with an investment of 13,700 crore. The investment of Macquarie SBI Infrastructure would help fund the first phase of 1,200 mw of the Anuppur power plant.

The project is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2014. South Eastern Coalfields would supply the coal requirements for the power project. With the current investment from MSIF and SBI, the first phase of 1,200 mw, which is anticipated to cost 6,240 crore, is fully funded. The remaining funding would come from equity infusion by the Moser Baer Projects. The company had already received funding of 4,680 crore for the first phase in November 2009 from SBI and Axis Bank.

The scrip opened at Rs. 39.70 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 39.90 and Rs. 38.80 respectively. So far 7301 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'B' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 63.00 on 24-Nov-2010 and a 52 week low of Rs. 27.00 on 9-Feb-2010.

Rajesh Exports, a leading wholesaler and exporter of gold jewellery, is slated to raise around 7,000 crore for retail expansion across India. The company is expected to finance its retail push through a combination of internal accruals, external commercial borrowing (ECB) and domestic debt. The expansion would be financed through 1,200 crore worth internal cash accruals initially, 2,500 crore through ECB, 1,500 crore of domestic debt and internal accruals of 1,500 crore expected to be generated over the next three years. The fund-raising will help the company launch 500 Shubh stores across the country over the next three years and will bolster its success witnessed in Bangalore where it has set up 14 such stores over the past six months. The company believes that its success lies in following an associate model, wherein Rajesh Exports partners with small and mid-sized jewelers which undertake to exclusively sell its house-designed jewellery. The company bears the inventory and branding costs while saving on lease charges or outright realty purchases. In the bargain, the distributor gets a commission of 2.5% on jewellery sales. The company expects its profit margin to increase from the current 1.5% to around 4.5-5% with its retail foray. Being a fully integrated player — having technical tie-ups with overseas mines to captive refining and manufacturing abilities — the company has a very low cost of jewellery production.

Rajesh Exports is all set to raise about Rs 7,000 crore for retail expansion across India. The company is looking to finance its retail expansion through a combination of internal accruals, external commercial borrowing (ECB) and domestic debt.
