JK Paper has targeted three high growth segments in paper in which it will consolidate its position. Copier, coated paper and packaging boards are showing more than average growth and the company will expand in these segments that hold long term potential in the domestic and export markets. Copier paper and paper boards are growing at about 14-15 per cent and coated paper at 18 per cent against the average industry growth of about 9 per cent.

With a total annual production capacity of about 2.40 lakh tonnes a year in two mills located in Orissa and Gujarat, JK Paper has announced plans to add 1.50 lakh tonnes of copier paper production capacity in Orissa and strengthen its raw material output with 200,000 tonnes pulp mill at a cost of Rs 1,600 crore.

JK Paper entered paper board production three years back with a capacity of 60,000 tonnes a year. y March its capacity will be up 30 per cent to 80,000 tonnes. With the total domestic market estimated at about 4 lakh tonnes for copier paper, the company has devoted nearly 90 per cent of its printing and writing paper production capacity of about 1.75 lakh tonnes to branded copier papers. The balance is in specialty papers and it has completely exited the map litho paper to focus on value-added end.

Pennar Industries is looking to acquire an engineering company especially with skills in sheet metal works with a top line of Rs 100-200 crore, on the back of the company’s plan to double its turnover and also add value to Pennar’s topline.

The company has been working on inorganic plans for some time but could not bring them to a logical end owing to pricing issues. It had looked at some companies earlier and was about to sign an agreement with one company. But the problem was with the pricing. The promoter wants more money.

Its net profit stood at Rs 18.3 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2010 an increase of 34.8% over the previous quarter. Its sales increased by 49.40% to Rs 314.80 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2010 compared to the previous quarter. On consolidated basis, the group has reported a net profit of Rs 19.6 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2010, the company's highest ever profit in a quarter. The EBITA and PBT for the quarter remained Rs 38 crore and Rs 31.4 crore respectively.
