We buy a PE .. if we think nifty or a stock will fall..It is called PUT option ..[this is similar to going short ]
Similarly we buy a CE , whenever we expect a rally or a rise in value..It is called CALL option ..[this is similar to going long ]
There is one other way , as well , to go short [or do the same vice versa for long ]..In that we sell a PUT [instead of buying a call]..Here again we are going long ..Because we are selling a PUT, where in we are assuming the PUT value to fall,as we expect a rise in nifty or a stock..BUT PLEASE REMEMBER THIS METHOD IS HIGHLY RISKY FOR BEGINNER .
What you could do is to paper trade ... for as many days as you wish .. write down each trade ... And observe ..take note of the movements ..Don't jump into a trade in haste , as the options have what is called intrinsic value ..
For further explanation Please ask SM whenever he is on line .. He explains better ,with little room for doubts..
