Quaerterly earnings: Havells benefits from overseas buy, Suzlon struggles
Suzlon Energy and Havells India have been under significant pressure for some time due to their struggling overseas subsidiaries. But the two companies have painted contrasting pictures in their September 2010 quarter.
Havells has finally seen a turnaround in its overseas subsidiary, which posted a profit for the first time after its acquisition in April 2007.
>> Suzlon continues to reel under depressed sentiments in the US and European markets. Despite having large order books, the company has posted huge losses for the quarter, both on a standalone as well as consolidated basis.
Suzlon recorded its sixth consecutive quarter of losses (excluding extraordinary items) at Rs 370 crore, marginally higher than what it recorded in the year-ago quarter. It is also the fifth quarter of decline in sales, which fell by about21%, less than the average decline of 36% witnessed in the previous two quarters.
