Maruti Suzuki honoured for contribution to government kitty
Country’s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has been honoured by the Central Board of Excise and Customs, Ministry of Finance for its extensive contribution to the national exchequer. Finance Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram gave away the “Appreciation Award” at an investiture ceremony on Sunday, 24th February 2008.
Maruti Suzuki has been a significant contributor to the exchequer for the last several years.
In the first ten months of 2007-08 (April07-January08), the gross excise paid by the company stood at Rs. 2,635 crores, an increase by 26.7% over same period previous fiscal. The increase in excise payment in this fiscal is on account of higher sales by the company and a faster growth in higher value models.
The “Appreciation Award” was received by Mr. H Nagao, Director and Managing Executive Officer alongwith Mr. DD Goyal, Chief General Manager, Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
