SEBI lodges FIR over Pyramid Saimira theatre episode
MUMBAI: Market regulator SEBI on Friday said that it has lodged an FIR with the Mumbai police for “forgery” of its communication in the wake of the Pyramid Saimira theatre episode. “An FIR has been registered at the Bandra-Kurla police station on January 1 to investigate the matter of forgery of SEBI communication and to take necessary action against the culprits for offences committed by them under the appropriate provision of law,” SEBI told in response to a query on the issue.
It was reported on December 22 that SEBI, through an order of December 19, had directed Pyramid Saimira theatre Chairman and Managing Director P S Saminathan to make an open offer for acquisition of shares of the company at a price less than Rs 250 per share.
The market regulator, on the very next day – December 23 – had clarified that no order or letter had been issued by it to Saminathan on December 19 and that the said letter was being circulated with ulterior motives.
Subsequently, SEBI has been investigating the matter and has prima facie found that the communication on letter head and stationery styled on the pattern of the official SEBI stationery have been sent to two promoters of the company, it said.
These were intended to convey the impression that SEBI has issued such a communication, it said.
