Sensex up 245pts; ICICI Bank rallies 9%
A fresh bout of buying in late afternoon deals has boosted the index, and the Sensex is now up 245 points at 8,941. Sterlite has soared nearly 12% to Rs 229. ICICI Bank has zoomed over 9% to Rs 350. HDFC Bank, DLF and Wipro have surged over 5.5% each to Rs 883, Rs 199 and Rs 242, respectively.
Reliance has gained 5% at Rs 1,126. NTPC has moved up 4.5% to Rs 161.
Bharti Airtel, Reliance Infrastructure and HDFC have rallied around 4% each to Rs 653, Rs 518 and Rs 1,404, respectively.
TCS and Ranbaxy have moved up nearly 4% each to Rs 523 and Rs 211, respectively.
ITC and ONGC have advanced 2.5% each to Rs 173 and Rs 702, respectively.
Mahindra & Mahindra has plunged 4.5% to Rs 264. Maruti has shed 2.6% at Rs 521.
The market breadth is fairly negative – out of 2,118 stocks traded so far, 1,235 declined, 815 advanced and the rest are unchanged.
