Thomas Cook cons Operating PBT up by 35% to Rs 376 mn

Thomas Cook (India) Limited (TCIL), the leading integrated Travel and Financial Services Company announced impressive financial and operating results for the quarter and half year ended June 30, 2008.

The consolidated Operating PBT for the first half of the year grew significantly by 35% over the previous period to Rs. 376 million. And for Q2 the Operating PBT grew by 38% to Rs. 252 million. The company had reviewed the operations of their branches/ division including subsidiary company resulting into the closure of the unviable travel branches in Sri Lanka and a division of subsidiary company, consequently a sum of Rs. 34 million has been charged in the first half of the year. On account of the alignment of the policies of the holding company, Thomas Cook Group Plc, the depreciation for H1CY07 and CY07 included a one time credit of depreciation in the subsidiary company aggregating to Rs. 18.1 million.

After taking into account the above items, the half yearly Profit after Tax (PAT) increased by 16% to Rs. 219 million, while the PAT for Q2 CY08 increased 21% to Rs. 140 million.

The companies’ Earning per Share (EPS) for half year was Rs. 1.3 a 30% rise, while for Q2 CY 08 was Rs. 0.9 compared to Rs. 0.6 same time last year, a 50% rise.
