Efkon India bags 3 major projects

The Toll Technology specialist EFKON India, a subsidiary of Efkon AG, along with its new shareholder, the construction Giant Strabag SE, has received orders to build and manage toll management services for three prestigious projects worth Rs 28.05 crores. These include: The Bangalore Elevated Tollway, the Chennai IT Expressway and the Surat – Dahisar Tollway.

For the Chennai IT Expressway, a one of its kind multi plaza toll system on the prestigious IT corridor in Chennai, Efkon will ensure that the toll collections are performed in the most efficient manner and that road users will have a smooth & quick experience while paying toll, around the six lane highway. Efkon India, has specially designed the toll system suited for the IT corridor using its international technological expertise and vast experience of its other project in India. Efkon India will supply, install, commission and maintain this state-of-the art Tollway.

The system includes the facility of electronic tolling based on Efkon’s superior Infra-red technology, which will allow road users to pay toll non–stop while driving through the plaza. This technology has already shown success on the Noida Toll Bridge in Delhi. Efkon will install a very reliable and sophisticated distributed database system that automatically share information over several toll plazas for tracking vehicles entering and crossing the corridor.

Besides this, Efkon will also supply its Toll & Traffic Management system to Bangalore Elevated Tollway located in India’s silicon valley connecting Bangalore City to Electronic City by an Elevated Road and towards Hosur in Tamil Nadu by the Ground Level Road. This project is a major infrastructure for the burgeoning city of Bangalore and is co-promoted by Indian Infrastructure majors of Nagarjuna Constructions, Soma Enterprises and MAYTAS Infrastructure. Efkon India will set tolling systems for six plazas and Highway Traffic Management System for the Elevated and Ground Level Roads over 25 Kms stretch. The total number of lanes would be 34 of which 13 will be ETC lanes.

Efkon India will also set up toll and WIM (Weigh in Motion) systems for four plazas on the Surat – Dahisar Stretch and would provide complete system integration solution besides overseeing the maintenance of this stretch. The expected time of completion is November 2008.This project would include 72 lanes with each plaza comprising 18 lanes. This project is expected to be completed by April 2009. Efkon has signed the contract with IRB Surat – Dahisar Tollway Private Limited, subsidiary of IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited for their Surat – Dahisar project, which is being done by them in consortium with Deutsche Bank.
