Control Print India Limited, India’s leading Coding & Marking solutions provider listed on the BSE, has entered into a partnership agreement with KBA-Metronic AG, the undisputed worldwide technology leader in Coding, Marking, and Printing. The venture will lead to coding technology being manufactured in India based on know-how transferred from KBA-Metronic Germany. KBA- Metronic AG is a wholly owned subsidiary of Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA), the world’s third largest printing equipment manufacturer listed on the Deutsche Börse, with sales of over $ 2.4 billion (Rs.10.000 crores), founded 190 years ago.

KBA-Metronic’s best-in-class industrial inkjet printer range will provide proven benefits to the Indian Customer with its legendary cost-efficiency and reliability. CPIL will also be manufacturing KBA-Metronic’s wide range specialised ink formulations for all variety of applications.

With this tie-up CPIL will be the first Indian manufacturer of industrial inkjet printers in India. The company has already set up a manufacturing and assembly facility for marking and coding devices at their facility in Nalagarh, Himanchal Pradesh and production of the same is expected to commence in this quarter itself. CPIL is targeting further increases of its already significant market share. CPIL will also service the South Asian market. In addition CPIL will re-export printers to other emerging markets in conjunction with KBA-Metronic.

Demand for Coding & Marking equipment in India is growing rapidly since demand for printers is directly linked to manufacturing growth. Tighter regulations on product traceability in addition to increasing automation in production lines are also increasing penetration levels for digital industrial inkjet printers which are replacing older technologies. Growth in organised retail is increasing requirements for the appearance of product packaging and this is an additional market driver. The automotive, consumer products, building materials, and pharmaceutical industries are the key growth markets. Coding & Marking is estimated to be a $3.6 billion industry worldwide with global industry growth driven primarily by emerging markets.

Basant Kabra, Managing Director of CPIL, stated : “With KBA-Metronic’s technology and Control Print’s local manufacturing and marketing capabilities I am confident we will reinforce and expand our market leadership”.

Says Helge Hansen, Chairman of the Board and CEO of KBA-Metronic presently in Mumbai for the launch and celebration of this new partnership :

“I was looking for a partner who could not only deliver on market opportunity but also one who was in alignment with the KBA vision and culture with respect to German Quality and practices as a solution provider for its customers. In the case of Control Print I could tick all the boxes.” Having grown KBA-Metronic revenues substantially over the last few years in its traditional developed markets Mr. Hansen is now planning to do the same in emerging markets with local partners and full endorsement of the KBA Group.
