This will be the PM’s third full fledged press conference in the last 10 years of his term

Will he or will he not?

Social media is buzzing after a report was carried in The Telegraph on the PM announcing his resignation soon. The report says that while the final decision has not been yet taken, this move is expected to pave the way for Rahul Gandhi’s projection as the PM candidate for the 2104 elections.

NDTV has reported citing PMO sources that the PM will not announce his resignation on Jan 3 as being widely speculated but he will set the stage for the projection of Rahul Gandhi as the party’s PM candidate.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address a press conference on Friday, his second and possibly the last during UPA-II.

Singh, who is criticised by some for not meeting the media, has decided to address the press conference at a time when his government is under severe attack on alleged policy paralysis and other issues and Congress is in distress.

The press conference, just months ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, will only be the second during Singh’s second term as the Prime Minister which began in May 2009 even though he has met five Editors and a group of TV Editors once each.

It will be the third full-fledged press conference in the entire 10 years that he has been the Prime Minister.

The UPA government has been facing criticism on account of “policy paralysis”, corruption and price rise and some other issues.

Congress has suffered a setback after the drubbing in recent Assembly elections. Singh is expected to field questions on all these issues at the press meet.
