Hi All,
I have a query on Future. On 7th of August I short sell Future Contract of Chennaipetro at 327.40 and as on 14th of August I covered my trade at 314.35. As Chennaipetro has declared a dividend on 14th of August of 18.5. So as per SEBI guidelines.
The adjustment in strike price shall be carried out in the following cases of declaration of dividends: Dividends declared at and above 5% of the market value of the underlying stock.
In this case, the dividend is over 5%.
Adjustments for Futures Contracts:
Base price of the Futures contracts on August 14, 2018 will be reference rate less aggregate amount of dividend i.e. Rs. 18.50/-. The reference rate to be reckoned for this purpose shall be the daily mark to market settlement price of the relevant futures contract.
=> Settlement price of Chennai petro on 13th is 328.80(Buy price for me for 14th) and 310.55 is settlement price as on 14th of August. Now As it was short position at 328.80, So i should be in profit of 21675/-
Calculation = 328.80 - 314.35 = 14.45 * 1500(lot size) = 21675/- Profit.
My Broker has I am in loss of 6120.42/-.
Please help me to understand the concept of short selling of futures. Why I am in loss.
