Global Innovation Summit 08/FIND2008 to be held in Finland

Minister for Science and Technology, Mr. Kapil Sibal on his recent visit to Finland singed an Agreement with the Government of Finland to collaborate in the area of Science & Technology with a focus on Innovation. Confederation of Indian Industry and Finpro are collaborating to take this Agreement to the next level of engagement and implementation.

To this extent CII and Finpro propose to sign a Memorandum of Understanding at the Global Innovation Summit 2008/FIND 2008 scheduled for May 27-29 in Finland. This MoU will formalize the partnership between CII and Finpro and will be focused on putting in place a mechanism to take definitive steps towards realizing the objectives of the Agreement at the Government level.

The Joint organisation of GIS/FIND 2008, an innovation summit is one of the first steps in this collaborative effort. This event will be a platform to bring together Indian and Finnish innovating companies as well as to start a dialog at the government to government level. The Indian delegation comprises of innovating companies such as Godrej & Boyce, Sukam Inverters, Tata Consultancy Services.

“Finland is amongst the most innovative countries in the world and we are looking forward to a relationship that will benefit both Finland and India. The Summit will offer a platform for us to expand the base of our relationship with Finland”, said Mr. Tejpreet Chopra, Chairman, CII Mission for Innovation.

“Finland has recognized India as a country with innovation focus. We, as a country and from the corporate sector in Finland are keen to co-operate and collaborate with India and Indian companies to work towards a mutually beneficial relationship”, said Mr. Seppo Keränen, Head of Finpro India.

Finland is a hotbed of innovation. As per the World Business/INSEAD Global Innovation Index 2007, Finland is ranked 13th amongst the world’s top innovators. India ranks 23 in the index, which is led by US, Germany, UK and Japan in that order. Finland’s investment in R&D, at 3.4% of GDP, is one of the highest in the world. This programme will offer participants an opportunity to visit some of the most innovative companies in the world such as Nokia Siemens Networks, WinWinD, Proventia, Elektrobit.
