Volatile Nifty ends flat; Grasim, RIL lend support

MUMBAI: Indices ended little changed on Tuesday as investors bought frontline stocks with the positive opening of the European markets. Buying
activity in index-heavyweight Reliance Industries, Grasim and BHEL also supported the benchmarks. Traders also squared off positions ahead of F&O expiry later in the week.

National Stock Exchange’s Nifty ended at 4228.10, down 7.15 points or 0.17 per cent. The broader index touched an intra-day low of 4143.25 and high of 4267.45.

Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 14,276.46, down 49.76 points or 0.35 per cent. The index touched an intra-day high of 14394.19 and low of 14016.95.

BSE Midcap Index was up 0.03 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index slipped 0.19 per cent.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Oil&gas Index gained 1.88 per cent and BSE Power Index moved 1.25 per cent higher. BSE Bankex declined 2.42 per cent and BSE Metal Index slipped 2.07 per cent.

Biggest Nifty gainers comprised Grasim Industries (4.65%), BHEL (2.66%), Tata Motors (2.53%), HCL Technologies (2.51%) and Reliance Industries (2.49%).

NALCO (-6.54%), ICICI Bank (-5.06%), Punjab National Bank (-4.27%), HDFC Bank (-4.03%) and Sterlite Industries (-3.94%) were the losers.

Market breadth was negative on the BSE with 1466 declines and 1108 advances.
