Prabhu bets big on tech for Railways revamp

The Railways Minister unveiled a slew of technology-driven solutions, especially aimed at passenger convenience

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu flagged off his Rail budget speech on Thursday with major announcements around Digital India, Make in India, Skill India and Swachch Bharat – all pet projects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. The first 30 minutes of the speech was populated by measures which require massive use of technology to up passenger amenities, increase safety and squeeze better efficiency from the Railways. The array of announcements around these pet projects perhaps provides a big clue on what one could expect on Saturday – when the General Budget 2015-16 is announced.
